PreNatal Yoga PreNatal Yoga is more than an exercise program for the pregnant body, it offers you the chance to explore your changing body and calm the mind to really connect with your baby and prepare for childbirth.
The practice in these classes is gentle and nurturing and include guided relaxation and mediation focussing on working and moving with the breath to create space, awareness and a deeper level of peace. We sometimes do partner work to encourage sharing your experience as well.
I come from the perspective that Prenatal Yoga is one of the best ways to prepare you for the journey into motherhood, and while we prepare physically for childbirth its the emotional journey that is more important. The breath leads us into freeing ourselves in preparation for a life changing journey and allowing us to calmly find the space to be ready to explore and really participate in your individual experience of childbirth. Often women have many stories and personal experiences that we love to share in class and in our lives but it is in the end your own individual journey into motherhood that I hope to guide you to and help you begin.
The ideal time to start PreNatal Yoga is after the first trimester when you are starting to feel the changes in your body and are able to place the practice into context. However the classes are gentle and I encourage you to come when you feel ready to join.
I teach with a little humour but endeavour to support and encourage you to relax and prepare in peace. I have the support of two midwives (my aunt and a good freind) and a network of family and freinds who have all experienced motherhood. Class details. Testimonials. Thanks Louise, I feel so much better and have surprised myself how well I can still move this late in the pregnancy after doing Yoga - Meredith 2008 I have found pre-natal yoga a great way to relax, get rid of cobwebs and prepare for the birth of my first and now my second child. It’s also nice to be with other pregnant women. Being able to centre myself, breathe deeply and have a bit of a stretch were invaluable tools during my first labor. - Fiona 2008
